In the last few posts, I talked about what not to do when bark training your dog. This is one of the 3 main things that I said not to do in the post “How to Stop Dog Barking – 3 Things Not to Do”.
If you’re getting ready to train your dog to stop barking, I would definitely check that post out! The other two things not to do will also have their own posts that you can get to from this page: “How to Stop Dog Barking – 3 Things Not to Do”.
Let’s get started!
Inconsistent Bark Training
Now, this goes for all dog training, but is super important for bark training. You NEED to stay consistent with your training. This doesn’t only mean training your dog for 30 minutes a day or something like that. It also means that the stuff you are training your dog needs to be the same every time.
It’s kind of like when you practice for a sport. You do the same thing over and over again in the same way to get good at it. It’s the same for your dog!
When you train them, you need to make sure you do the same thing over and over again so that they can practice. Like they say, practice makes perfect!
Here are some of the things that you can do to make you stay on track:
- Set a training schedule
- Make clear goals to follow to track your progress
- Keep your training sessions fun and energetic
- Celebrate small wins with your pup
- Stick to your training and power through challenges
These are some surefire ways to make sure that you and your pup stay on track with training!
Final Thoughts on Bark Training
If you only take away one thing from this post, it should be that training needs to be consistent. You should follow your training steps every day in the same way for the best results.
If you don’t do this, you risk your bark training being ineffective. Worse yet, you might even make the barking problem worse.
Now that you know what to do when you figure out a training method, you should try to understand why your dog barks. You can start with this post: “Why Does My Dog Bark?”
This will help you find out why your dog is barking so you can bark train them correctly. When you have an idea of what the bark training will look like for your dog, then you can work on making it consistent!
