How to Teach Your Dog to Bow is a neat trick to teach your pup. When they do something cool you can have them take complete credit.
If you’ve been training your dog for a while. Give them the recognition they deserve with a proper bow trick.
There is not too much to this one as long as your dog can stand up.
Start with your dog in the standing position (all fours) with you facing them.
At this point, you want your dog calm and looking at you for the next instructions. If your dog is fired up, you may want to take them for a walk to tire them out a little.
With a treat in your hand, move your hand from your dog’s nose slowly to the ground in front of them. When they follow your hand down in a bowing position, Say “BOW,” then PRAISE and REWARD them.
Your goal in this step is twofold:
Have your dog follow your hand down to the bowing position. You want them to do this without putting their bottom down. Only reward success.
Then, associate the “BOW” verbal command with this trick, when they do it right.
Make earning the treat more difficult so they only get it with a great bow. Then start to say “BOW” from a few feet away. When they do it well, PRAISE and REWARD them.
Ultimately, from afar, you want to get the dog to bow with just the command.
Keep doing the How to Teach Your Dog to Bow trick. If done on a regular basis it will keep the BOW fresh in their mind.
