Why Does your Chihuahua Bark?
First, let’s look at why your Chihuahua barks. Your dog barks because it is rewarding to them. When a dog barks at a squirrel, another dog or the mail man, they experience dopamine release in their brain. This is no different than when humans do something rewarding like scoring a goal or winning the lottery.
This “nuisance barking”, as it is called, can be easily solved with the proper training techniques that will be described in the Bark Collar eBook covering the A to Z details of the Athenas Pets Humane Bark Collar.
Bark Collar for a Chihuahua – Next Steps?
First, you need to understand it depends on your dog and the effort you put into training them. Two weeks to two months is a reasonable time frame for a fully trained dog who will not bark at unwanted events.
Expect around one hour of training 4 – 5 times per week. Although, we’ve seen some cases of successful training in less than one week.
Also, depending on your dog, they may be too stubborn, strong willed or tough to accept the training. In these cases, people have resorted to a shock collar, which gives a static shock when a dog barks as opposed to the beeps and vibration of the Athenas Pets Humane Bark Collar.
Successful Chihuahua Bark Training requires Time, Practice and Patience:
Time is a key success factor. If you just put the collar on your Chihuahua and it goes through its beep and vibration cycle as they continue to bark, they will not know why. It takes time for the dog to assimilate your commands and what the beep and vibration signifies. Typically, with an hour a day, you can see success.
The Dog Bark Collar needs to be properly fitted and adjusted to your dog. It’s a simple process, covered in the eBook from above.
Next is practice. You need to follow a plan and have a well thought through training regimen. If you praise the dog for every unwanted behavior, you will get more of the unwanted behavior. If you tell them NO when unwanted barking occurs, and the collar reinforces your command, you will be on the road to a well-mannered dog.
Finally, Patience is needed for the dog to understand what you expect of them. Some dogs pick up on this quickly and others take more time. Either way, patience on the part of the dog’s owner/trainer is a key ingredient to get your dog’s barking in check.
